NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.–Monroe University baseball players Juan Garcia and Jesus Nieves each signed with NAIA teams this week. Garcia signed with Central Methodist University, while Nieves signed with the University of the Cumberlands.
Nieves was the Mustangs' top performer at the plate in the 2025-26 season, tallying a team-leading batting average of .414, which was a career high. He also had a career-high two home runs and 27 RBIs on the year. From March 28-April 12, Nieves went on a 10-game hitting streak and tallied 24 hits during that stretch. On March 28 against CCBC-Essex, Nieves tallied a season-high four hits, two RBIs, and three doubles in the game. Nieves finished his career at Monroe batting .395, with 92 games played, 100 runs scored, 124 hits, and 51 RBIs.
Garcia sat tied for second on the team in batting average, going .389 at the dish in the 2025-26 season. In his 90 at-bats, he tallied 30 hits, which included four home runs and 30 RBIs. His best performance during the season came on April 27 against Allegany College of Maryland when he went 4-4 with three doubles in the game while also recording five RBIs. From March 11-March 28, Garcia went on an eight-game hitting streak which included two three-hit outings. Garcia finished his career at Monroe batting .354 with 61 games played, 181 at bats, 64 hits, and 51 RBIs.
