BEL AIR, Md.–The Monroe University baseball team's season ended on Friday afternoon as they dropped a pair of games to WVU Potomac and Harford CC by scores of 16-8 and 13-2 in the NJCAA Region 20 Tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1)
·     The Mustangs jumped out to a 4-0 lead on a two-RBI single by Juan Garcia and a two-RBI double by Alejandro Bernard.
·     In the bottom of the first inning, the Catamounts tallied a pair of runs on an RBI triple and an RBI double to cut the Mustangs' lead to 4-2.
·     Then in the bottom of the third inning, the Catamounts tied the game at 4-4 on a passed ball and RBI single.
·     In the top of the fourth inning, the Mustangs added a pair of runs on a Jesus Nieves two-run home run to give the Mustangs a 6-4 lead.
·     Then in the top of the fifth inning, the Mustangs added another run on a sacrifice fly to give them a 7-4 lead.
·     In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Catamounts added three runs on an RBI single and a two-run home run to even the score at 7-7.
·     A solo home run by the Catamounts in the bottom of the sixth inning would give them an 8-7 lead.
·     In the top of the seventh inning, Jason Guzman ripped an RBI double to left-center field, which tied the game at 8-8.
·     The Catamounts countered in the bottom half of the inning as they registered eight runs in the inning, which included an RBI single, a two-RBI single, one solo home run, then a three-run home run and an error to give them the 16-8 victory.
GAME 2
·     Harford jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run home run.
·     Then in the top of the third inning, Franklin Francisco knocked in a pair of runs on a single to center field to even the score at 2-2.
·     In the bottom of the third inning, the Fighting Owls tacked on six runs on a two-run home run, an RBI single, a two-RBI double and a fielder's choice to give them an 8-2 lead.
·     The Fighting Owls sealed the victory in the bottom of the fourth inning, as they knocked in a pair of runs on an RBI double and a three-run home run to result in the Fighting Owls' 13-2 victory.
STATS AND NOTES
·     The Mustangs finished the season with 19 wins, which is the sixth straight season in which they tallied double-digit wins.
·     Franklin Francisco and Nair Jamanika led the Mustangs in RBIs with 34 on the year.
·     Jamanika tallied a career-high 49 hits, 12 doubles and four home runs while batting .389.
·     Jesus Nieves ended the season with a career-high batting average of .414 while tallying a career-high two home runs and 27 RBIs.
