Faculty Athletics Representative

An Independent Institutional Role

The Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) serves as a principal institutional liaison between the academic community and intercollegiate athletics.

The FAR supports academic integrity, student-athlete well-being and institutional responsibility in the administration of the athletics program.

At Monroe University–New Rochelle, the FAR operates outside the Athletics Department and has direct access to the President on matters involving athletics governance, academic integrity, compliance and student-athlete welfare.

Key Responsibilities

The Faculty Athletics Representative provides an independent faculty and institutional perspective across academic, governance, compliance and student-athlete matters.

Academic Integrity

Supports appropriate academic standards and the integration of intercollegiate athletics with Monroe University’s educational mission.

Eligibility Certification

Serves as the final institutional certifying official for student-athlete eligibility following review by the appropriate University offices.

Institutional Control

Participates in institutional oversight of the athletics program and evaluates athletics matters from a faculty and University perspective.

Student-Athlete Welfare

Provides an independent institutional resource for matters affecting the academic and overall collegiate experience of student-athletes.

Rules & Governance

Participates in NCAA rules education, institutional governance and athletics compliance activities.

Faculty Engagement

Strengthens communication among faculty, University leadership, student-athletes and Athletics.

Institutional Reporting & Collaboration

The FAR maintains a direct institutional relationship with the President while collaborating with Athletics, compliance and academic/student support offices.

Eligibility Certification

Eligibility certification is an institutional process involving multiple University offices. The FAR serves as the final certifying official after the appropriate academic, admissions, financial-aid and compliance reviews have been completed.

Athletics Advisory Committee

The FAR participates in Monroe’s institutional athletics governance structure and helps connect athletics oversight with the broader University community.

Athletics Compliance Committee

The FAR works collaboratively with Athletics Compliance and institutional representatives to support rules compliance, monitoring and institutional responsibility.

Student-athletes may communicate with the Faculty Athletics Representative regarding academic matters, student-athlete welfare, athletics-related concerns or other matters where an independent faculty perspective may be helpful.
