Overview

Athletics at Monroe University-New Rochelle operates within the broader governance structure of the University. While the Athletics Department is responsible for the day-to-day administration of intercollegiate athletics, institutional oversight extends across University leadership, faculty representation, administrators and student-athlete representatives.

The President provides executive leadership for Monroe University and has ultimate institutional responsibility for ensuring that intercollegiate athletics operates in alignment with the University's mission, policies and strategic priorities.

Assistant Vice President/Director of Athletics

Luis Melendez

The Director of Athletics oversees the administration of Monroe University's intercollegiate athletics programs, including personnel, operations, facilities, competition, student-athlete services and departmental strategic planning.

Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance

Chad Duesler

The Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance provides oversight of institutional athletics compliance and supports the University's commitment to operating its intercollegiate athletics programs in accordance with applicable NCAA, conference, institutional and other governing requirements.

Eva Lassen

The Assistant Athletics Director/Senior Woman Administrator provides leadership and oversight within the Athletics Department and contributes to institutional decision-making and the effective administration of intercollegiate athletics.

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee provides student-athletes with a formal opportunity to contribute to the athletics community and University decision-making process. SAAC provides feedback on the student-athlete experience, supports community engagement and promotes communication between student-athletes and athletics administration.

Athletics Oversight Beyond the Athletics Department

Effective governance of intercollegiate athletics is a shared institutional responsibility. Oversight does not rest solely with the Athletics Department; it involves University leadership, faculty representation, compliance personnel, student-athlete representatives and other institutional stakeholders.

This structure helps ensure that athletics decisions are considered within the University's broader academic, financial, legal, compliance and student-success priorities. Through collaboration among these groups, Monroe University maintains multiple levels of review and accountability while supporting the University's academic mission and the overall student-athlete experience.
