Women's Basketball Ups Win-Steak to 13 with Win Over Howard CC

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Monroe University women's basketball team (19-6 overall) captured their 13th straight victory with a 78-29 victory over Howard Community College (14-14 overall) on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Mustangs tallied 19 points in the first quarter alone with 10 points coming from Angie Tirado which aided them to take a 19-9 lead in the first quarter.
  • Monroe posted 17 more points in the second quarter with a pair of Mustangs scoring six points each from Bre Jefferson and Fabiana Poindujour which aided in giving the Mustangs a 36-13 lead at the half.
  • The Monroe defense held Howard to just four points in the second quarter.
  • In the third quarter Jefferson continued her dominating play as she added another six point which contributed to giving the Mustangs a 61-16 lead. The defense dominated as well in the third quarter allowing Howard to score just three points.
  • In the fourth quarter, the Mustangs added 17 more points which contributed to their 78-29 victory over Howard.
STATS AND NOTES
  • Three Mustangs scored in double-digits featuring Jefferson (17), Poindujour (12), and Angie Tirado (10).
  • Monroe currently leads the all-time series with Howard 9-2 with today's win.
  • The Mustangs upped their win-streak the 13.
  • Monroe sits among the top five in NJCAA Division 1 with 19 wins on the season.
