New Rochelle, NY – The Monroe University women's basketball team earned an 85-22 victory over Baltimore City Community College on Saturday, completing the season sweep of the Panthers.
It was an inspired victory as sophomore day preceded the dominant performance. The sophomores stood out as
Qaizden Stephano (16),
Nicole Bencosme (14) and
Alycia Secchiaroli (12) — who also earned a double-double with 13 boards, including 11 offensive rebounds —each recorded double-digit points.
Freshman
Carlota Lopez led all scorers with 17 points.
Typical of a dominant Mustang victory, the team dominated the paint with 56 points in the painted area. Additionally, Monroe tallied 37 points off turnovers to overwhelm the Panthers.
Monroe outscored Baltimore City 38-4 in the first half and they didn't take their foot off the gas in the second half, outscoring the Panthers by 29 over the final 20 minutes of action.
The effort pushed the Mustangs to 21-4 on the year as they await two more regular season matchups against SUNY Sullivan. The home-and-away series against the Generals will open at the Monroe Athletic Complex on Tuesday, February 25, at 4:00 pm.
