New Rochelle, NY - Monroe delivered another strong outing on Sunday morning, powering past Pensacola State 85-49 thanks to efficient shooting and hard-nosed defense that stayed active all game long. The Mustangs set the tone immediately with a 25-point opening quarter and kept control the rest of the way.
Sydney Huskey led all scorers with 27 points on 8-of-11 shooting, hitting three threes and finishing 8-of-9 at the line. Her activity on the boards and ability to score in different situations gave Monroe a consistent edge throughout the course of the game.
Fabiana Poindujour added 11 points, six assists, and four steals to guide an offense that recorded 20 assists on 30 made field goals. Hellary De Los Santos anchored the interior with 10 rebounds, contributing to Monroe's 46-37 advantage on the glass.
The Mustangs' depth was a major factor, with 35 bench points and contributions across the rotation. Skylah Kemp scored 10 points, Alex Stewart added eight, and Dunja Miletic provided strong minutes with four points late. Monroe continued to pull away in every quarter, maintaining control on both ends.
Defensively, Monroe held Pensacola State to 28.6 percent shooting and limited the Pirates to just five points in the third quarter. The Mustangs forced 22 turnovers and turned them into 16 points, keeping PSC out of rhythm in the half court. Amari Johnson led Pensacola State with 12 points.
Monroe closed the afternoon shooting 41.1 percent from the field, 41.4 percent from three, and 86.7 percent from the line, marking one of its cleanest offensive efforts of the season. A steady, disciplined performance from start to finish secured the Mustangs' 85-49 victory and showcased the depth and momentum the team continues to build.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
