Twin Falls, Idaho - Monroe couldn't overcome a slow start on Thursday night, falling 81-60 on the road to undefeated College of Southern Idaho. The Mustangs move to 5-4 as their three-game road swing continues.
CSI opened the game on a 14-2 run and held Monroe to 12 first-quarter points, creating a deficit the Mustangs spent the rest of the night battling to erase. Monroe showed flashes in the second quarter outscoring CSI 19-18 but the Golden Eagles' paint presence and transition scoring proved too much to overcome.
Sydney Huskey paced Monroe with 18 points, adding 3 assists and 7 steals while attacking downhill throughout the night. She scored in every quarter and helped drive a late push in the fourth with multiple finishes at the rim.
Hellary De Los Santos posted a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds, including nine on the defensive end. The sophomore forward was Monroe's anchor inside and helped the Mustangs collect 46 total rebounds.
Fabiana Poindujour added 4 points and 6 assists, while Angie Tirado and Adela Cecunjanin each knocked down a three. Monroe's bench contributed 21 points, highlighted by 5 points from Sheridan Oberhand and 5 more from Kaylyn Lelie.
Despite the tough shooting night, Monroe generated 19 second-chance points behind a strong rebounding effort from De Los Santos, Stinnette, and the wings.
The Mustangs will look to bounce back tomorrow as they take on Shelton State Community College in Day 2 of the CSI Tournament.
