MONROE'S SEASON AT A GLANCE
The Mustangs have enjoyed a strong second season of competition in 2024, entering the NJCAA Men's Volleyball Invitational with a 26-5 overall record. The Mustangs have lost just one match to an NJCAA opponent this season, splitting the two-match season series with Finger Lakes Community College. Monroe went a perfect 8-0 during the inaugural season of Region 15 play, and then swept the opposition in the first-ever NJCAA Region 15 Championship tournament to become the first Region 15 Men's Volleyball Champion.
The Mustangs are led offensively by Region 15 Player of the Year
Arnau Riu Giralt, who is second in the NJCAA with 290 kills this year. He also ranks No. 1 with 67 service aces on the season. All-Region 15 Team member
Timothy Reyes leads the Mustangs with 933 assists, ranking second in the NJCAA. Reyes has contributed in every category this year with 59 kills, 53 blocks, 171 digs and 27 aces.
Region 15 Championship Tournament MVP
Damian Baker leads the Mustangs with 66 total blocks on the season. All-Region 15 Team member
Devounte Bennett has made 51 blocks on the year.
Arthur Rosa leads the Mustangs with 180 digs this season. All-Region 15 Team member
Briggs Wieboldt is second on the team with 218 kills.
Ethan Grace, who was also a member of the Region 15 All-Region Team, has totaled 140 kills with 46 aces this year.
LAST YEAR'S INVITATIONAL
Five of the six teams that competed in the inaugural NJCAA Men's Volleyball Invitational in 2023 return for this year's invitational: Monroe, Finger Lakes, DuPage, Ocean County and Bryant & Stratton. Last year featured two pools of three teams, with pool play preceding crossover play to determine the seeding for the championship bracket.
The Mustangs went 2-0 in pool play, as did Finger Lakes in the other pool. The Lakers then defeated Monroe in the crossover round to earn the top seed in the championship bracket. The Mustangs and Lakers both went on to win their semifinal matches, setting up another meeting in the championship of the tournament. Finger Lakes came out on top in four sets to become the first-ever NJCAA Men's Volleyball Invitational Champions. The Mustangs and Lakers conveniently proved to be the top two teams in the NJCAA again this season, and will lead their respective pools in the 2024 NJCAA Men's Volleyball Invitational.
