STATEN ISLAND, N.Y., February 18, 2023 – The No. 10-ranked Monroe College Mustangs men's track and field team competed in Friday's Garden State Track Club Invitational, hosted at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
The big highlight of the day for the Mustangs came in the 800-meter run.
Karim Belmahdi qualified in the event for the NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, running a personal-best time of 1:50.06 on Friday. The time also stands as the second fastest indoor time in Monroe College history.
Wayne Stephenson also ran in the 800m on Friday, crossing the line in 1:59.45.
Four Mustangs ran in Friday's 400-meter dash.
Prince Mcabelo ran a time of 49.89 to finish third in the race and earn a new personal-best time.
Jaheim Dotson claimed fourth place at 50.10 seconds.
Akeerie McFarlane was fifth in the race with a time of 50.70.
Kiron O'garro took sixth at 50.79 seconds.
Kgaogelo Moloisi competed in Friday's 3,000-meter run. He finished the race in 8:38.82.
The Mustangs head back to Ocean Breeze next Friday, Feb. 24, for the Fasttrack Last Chance Invitational. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe College marching band and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 11 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
