Topeka, KS. –The Monroe University men's indoor track and field team earned a pair of finalists in freshman Shaquane Toussaint and sophomore Modou Sanneh during day one of the 2026 NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Sneed Indoor Facility at Washburn University on Friday.
Toussaint, after missing the finals of the 400m with a tenth-place finish and a time of 48.84, had a school record breaking bounce-back performance in the 200m, running a time of 20.75 to advance to Saturday's final which is also the fastest time of all qualifiers heading into the final. Toussaint performance in the 200m is a new school record and the fastest time in program history.
Sanneh ran in the third heat of the 400m and finished first, crossing the finish line at 47.24. It was the ninth fastest time of the day, helping him advance to the 400m final on Saturday.
Freshman Emilio Bishop equaled his personal best performance in the 60M dash when he ran a time of 6.85. Freshman Yassine Rahoui ran a time of 1:59.50 in the 800m, and Boitshepo Mashilo wrapped up the day for the Mustangs in the 1000m with a time of 2:35.52.
Saturday marks the last day of nationals for the Mustangs where both Sanneh (400m) and Toussaint (200m) will each compete in their respective finals.
