NEW ROCHELLE, NY, March 12, 2020 – Monroe College today announced that its  Mustangs (Div. I) and Express (Div. III) athletic programs have ended their spring seasons early in accordance with public health experts' counsel on the importance of social distancing.

Effective today, all remaining games, practices, and training for its spring season teams are canceled. The cancellation of the current season unfortunately also means that the Mustangs' men's and women's basketball teams will not participate in their respective NJCAA Division I Basketball Championship Tournaments later this spring.

Further, the Monroe Athletic Complex is temporarily closed to all student events and public activities, including open gym and intramurals.

While there are no reported cases of coronavirus at Monroe, the decision to cancel all remaining spring season athletic activities is consistent with other measures taken to support the health and wellness of the College community.

Monroe announced yesterday that classes held on the New Rochelle and Bronx campus will transition to the online format through at least March 28^th. Housing students were encouraged to return home and campus facilities are subject to heightened cleaning and sanitization. Administrative offices and academic support centers remain open.
