New Rochelle, N.Y. – The Monroe College Women's Basketball team earned the #24 seed in the upcoming NJCAA championship tournament after capturing the regional and district championship titles. They are slated to face #9 South Plains College in the 24-team tournament that opens on Monday, March 20^th, in Lubbock, Texas.  The Mustangs will face the Lady Texans at 1:00 PM Eastern on Monday.
 
Monroe comes off a season that saw the team double its wins from last season and earn the Region XV and District 3 titles. Shania Johnson was named Region XV Player of the Year, and she and Cristina Soriano were selected as All-Region players.
 
The Monroe College Women's Basketball team has not appeared in the NJCAA championship since becoming a Division I team.  The team appeared in four national tournaments while in Divisions II and III, during which they compiled a 26-11 record. This will also be the first match between Monroe and South Plains College.
