Baseball Team off to a Strong Season Start

It's almost a month into the 2015 baseball season and the Mustangs are well on their way to a strong season, with an overall record of 17-7. Currently in second place for the region (behind ASA College), the team has triumphed in seven out of its last 10 games, including most recently in a double-header against Lackawanna College (1-0 in game 1 and 2-1 in game 2).

Here's a brief overview of the Mustangs' players to watch:

Pitching:
Osvaldo Duran (0.41 ERA – team best) has thus far allowed just three runs, with a 3-0 record pitching and 15 recorded strikeouts in four games. His counterpart Alex Clavet (0.71 ERA) has struck out 17 batters, allowed six runs and yields a 2-1 record.

Batting:
Seven players are leading the team in the batter's box, with averages above .300. Guillaume Gingras leads with a batting average of .418, 19 RBI's and 15 runs. Sophomore Justin Morales has a batting average of .389 17 RBI's with 19 runs, while freshman Endy Villalona leads the team with 8 stolen bases.

The Mustangs will now face regional rival ASA in a five-game series, starting today (April 8) at 7:00pm on their home field at City Park, New Rochelle. Subsequent home games will be played on Thursday and Friday at 3:30 p.m, following which the Mustangs will head to ASA for a weekend double header.

Monroe played the ASA Avengers last year in the Region final and unfortunately lost out on the chance to claim the title — now they're back, and eager to face their old rivals!

Admission to home games at City Park, New Rochelle is FREE, and all are welcome to attend.
