Friday brought with it not only beautiful weather, but success for the Monroe College baseball team — as a crisply played doubleheader sweep of Globe Institute of Technology left them 24-9 on the season and elevated them to first place in the Region 15 Conference.
During the first game, which saw the Mustangs take home a 4-2 win, Monroe ace sophomore Alex Vargas threw six innings, allowing two earned runs while striking out seven and giving up a mere three hits. Sophomore Juan Arias got the save to close the game out and offensively?, sophomore Hector Marmol went 1-for-2 with a two-RBI double.
The second game of the doubleheader saw sophomore Jose Peralta throw five innings, allowing one run and only one hit. John Hill threw a scoreless sixth inning to bring the Mustangs to the top spot in their division while, at bat, sophomore Guillaume Gingras went 3-for-3 with a walk and three RBIs. Jose Pena's RBI double also represented a valuable contribution to what was ultimately a 9-1 sweep for the Mustangs.
The Mustangs now hope to continue their impressive run as they travel to Groton, CT to face UConn Avery Point for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 18.
