BLACKWOOD, N.J.–The Monroe University baseball team (13-17 overall) defeated Camden County College (12-11 overall) 18-10 on Thursday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
·     Two bases-loaded walks in the top of the first inning gave the Mustangs an early 2-0 lead.
·     Later in the inning, a sacrifice fly by Jason Guzman scored another run to put the Mustangs ahead 3-0.
·     Then Alejandro Bernard ripped an RBI single to center field, scoring another run to give the Mustangs a 4-0 lead.
·     The Cougars tallied their first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning off an RBI triple to narrow the Mustangs' lead to 4-1.
·     Then in the top of the inning, the Mustangs added more runs off an RBI single by Franklin Francisco to put the Mustangs ahead 5-1.
·     Camden County also added a run in the second inning off a fielder's choice groundout to cut the Mustangs' lead to 5-2.
·     The Cougars added another run in the bottom of the third inning off a sacrifice fly out to left field, narrowing the Mustangs' lead to 5-3.
·     Then in the top of the fourth inning, the Mustangs tacked on two-more runs off an RBI double by Francisco and an RBI single by Juan Garcia to give the Mustangs a 7-3 lead.
·     The Mustangs added another run in the top of the fifth inning off an RBI double by Jesus Nieves, giving the Mustangs an 8-3 lead.
·     Then in the top of the sixth inning, Francisco scored on a passed ball to give the Mustangs a 9-3 lead.
·     Later in the inning, Justin Parsons launched a three-run homer to give the Mustangs a 12-3 lead.
·     Camden County added three runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning off a wild pitch, line out to left field, and fielder's choice, narrowing the Mustangs' lead to 12-6.
·     Then in the top of the seventh inning, Francisco fired an RBI double to center field, putting the Mustangs ahead 13-6.
·     In the same inning, Matthew DeFisher ripped an RBI single to center field, scoring a run to put the Mustangs in a comfortable 14-6 lead.
·     After the DeFisher single, Jason Guzman launched a two-run home run to put the Mustangs ahead 16-6.
·     The in the top of the ninth inning, Guzman ripped a two-RBI double to left field, giving the Mustangs an 18-6 lead.
·     In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Cougars added four runs coming off a bases-loaded hit by a pitch, a pair of walks, and an RBI single to result in the 18-10 Mustangs victory.
STATS AND NOTES
·     Monroe leads the all-time series 2-0.
·     The last time the two-teams face each other came in 2015, where the Mustangs won 5-2.
·     Alan Tejada-Henriquez got the win for the Mustangs on the mound, going 2.1 innings, allowing just one run and allowing just two hits.
·     Guzman tallied five RBIs in the game, going 2-5 at the dish. Five RBIs were the most he's tallied in a single game this season.
·     Francisco went 4-5 at the plate, tallying three-RBIs on the day. He's currently on a two-game hitting streak.
