TRENTON, N.J. – The Monroe University baseball team (15-17 overall) swept their doubleheader at Mercer County CC on Sunday afternoon by scores of 9-4 and 11-10.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1)
·     The Mustangs opened the first game with a solo-home run by Alejandro Bernard in the top of the third inning to put the Mustangs ahead 1-0.
·     The Mustangs kept piling runs in the same inning as Franklin Francisico ripped an RBI single to left center to put the Mustangs ahead 2-0.
·     Shortly after, a bases-loaded walk gave the Mustangs a 3-0 lead.
·     An RBI single by Jason Guzman capped off the third inning, putting the Mustangs ahead 4-0.
·     Mercer County tallied its first run in the bottom half of the third inning as they scored a run on a fielder's choice to cut the Mustangs' lead to 5-1.
·     Then in the top of the fourth inning, the Mustangs added two runs off a pair of RBI singles, putting them ahead 6-1.
·     In the top of the sixth inning, the Mustangs added a run on a Guzman RBI single to center field to put the Mustangs ahead 7-1.
·     Then in the bottom of the sixth inning, a solo home run and an RBI double cut the Mustangs' lead to 7-3.
·     In the top of the seventh inning, a single by Jesus Nieves scored a run to put the Mustangs ahead 8-3.
·     Later in the inning, Nair Jamanika ripped an RBI single to left field, putting the Mustangs ahead 9-3.
·     Mercer County added a run in the bottom of the seventh off a bases-loaded hit batsman, resulting in the Mustangs' 9-4 victory.
Game 2
·     In the top of the first inning, Francisico ripped an RBI single to right field, putting the Mustangs ahead 1-0.
·     Later in the inning, Isaiah Gibbs launched an RBI double to right field, giving the Mustangs a 2-0 lead.
·     In the top of the second inning, Matthew DeFisher scored on a passed ball, giving the Mustangs a 3-0 advantage.
·     Then in the top of the third inning, Jamanika ripped an RBI double to left field, putting the Mustangs ahead 4-0.
·     Later in the inning, Francisico grounded out, which scored a runner from third base to put the Mustangs ahead 5-0.
·     DeFisher then doubled to center field, which scored a run, putting the Mustangs ahead 6-0.
·     Mercer County added three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning off an RBI single and double, cutting the Mustangs' lead to 6-3.
·     In the top of the fifth inning, the Mustangs added two more runs off a pair of RBI singles, putting the Mustangs ahead 8-3.
·     In the bottom of the fifth inning, Mercer County added four runs off a two-RBI triple and an error, narrowing the Mustangs' lead to 8-7.
·     In the top of the sixth inning, Nieves singled on a line drive to the left fielder, scoring a run to put the Mustangs ahead 9-7.
·   Mercer County countered in the bottom of the sixth inning with a bases-loaded walk, cutting the Mustangs' lead to 9-8.
·     Then in the top of the seventh inning, Gibbs scored on a passed ball, putting the Mustangs ahead 10-8.
·     Later in the inning, Bernard doubled to left field, scoring a run to give the Mustangs an 11-8 lead.
·     In the bottom of the seventh inning, Mercer County tallied two runs off an RBI double and sacrifice fly, resulting in the 11-10 Mustangs victory.
STATS AND NOTES
·     The Mustangs lead the all-time series against Mercer County 21-19.
·     Edwin Nunez picked up the win in game two, going three innings, allowing zero runs, and striking out four batters.
·     In game one, Ricardo Feliz picked up the win going four innings, allowing one earned run while striking out seven batters.
·     Nieves upped his hitting streak to 10, going 2-3 in game one and 3-4 in game two.
