KEYSER, WV. – The Monroe University baseball team (18-22 overall) dropped their opening series games to WVU Potomac State (29-12 overall) by scores of 6-1 and 16-6 on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1)
·     The Mustangs opened game one with a home run by Juan Garcia to put the Mustangs ahead 1-0 in the top of the second inning.
·     The Catamounts countered in the bottom of the fourth inning when they scored a run on a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 1-1.
·     Then in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Catamounts added three more runs on a solo home run, RBI double and RBI single to put them ahead 4-1.
·     Potomac State sealed the victory in the top of the sixth inning, scoring two more runs off a pair of RBI singles to give them the 6-1 victory.
Game 2
·     The Mustangs jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning, beginning with a three-run home run by Nair Jamanika to give the Mustangs a 3-0 lead.
·     In the same inning, Johadimir Marmolejos- Cruz ripped a two-run double to put the Mustangs ahead 5-0.
·     The Catamounts answered in the bottom half of the first inning, scoring four runs on an RBI triple, RBI ground out, and a two-run home run to cut the Mustangs' lead to 5-4.
·     In the top of the second inning, Garcia knocked in a run on an RBI single to increase the Mustangs' lead to 6-4.
·     Then in the bottom of the third inning, the Catamounts tallied three runs on an RBI double, single, and sacrifice fly to take a 7-6 lead.
·     In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Catamounts extended their lead as they launched two two-run home runs to give themselves an 11-6 lead.
·     In the bottom of the fifth inning, they added to their lead on a three-run home run to give the Catamounts a 14-6 lead.
·     A two-RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning sealed the 16-6 victory for the Catamounts.
STATS AND NOTES
·     The Catamounts lead the all-time series 19-17.
·     Jamanika tallied his third home run of the year, while Garcia tallied his fourth of the year.
·     Marmolejos tallied his 10th RBI of the year.
·     16 runs is tied for the second highest number of runs given up by the Mustangs against the Catamounts in their series history.

·     Because of inclement weather, the series finale between the Catamounts and Mustangs is moved to Sunday, April 26, starting at 1:00 p.m.
