NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.–The No. 8 Monroe University men's volleyball team defeated Brookdale CC in straight sets (25-21, 25-14, and 25-23) on Saturday afternoon. The win put Monroe to 7-6 on the regular season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
·     In the first set, Monroe fired 12 kills while Brookdale only tallied 11.
·     Brookdale recorded eight errors while the Mustangs only had four, which aided in the Mustangs taking the first set.
·     In the second set, the Mustangs held Brookdale to just seven kills while the Mustangs piled on 13. Brookdale also tallied seven errors while the Mustangs only tallied three, which led to the Mustangs taking the second set handily 25-14.
·     The third set was tighter as both sides fired back-to-back points, but the Mustangs' 13 kills in the final set was enough to win the set and game 25-23.
STATS AND NOTES
·     This was the first-ever match-up between Brookdale and the Mustangs.
·     Yensy Rodriguez continued his impressive play, tallying 23 kills and two service aces.
·     23 kills were Rodriguez's fourth 20-kill day of the season.
·     38 kills were the fourth most kills by the Mustangs in a single game this season.
·     Brookdale's 28 kills were the fourth lowest the Mustangs have allowed this season.Â
