Shaquane Toussaint Sets School Record as Men's Outdoor Track And Field Racks Up Multiple Personal Best Times in Season Opener at USF Invitational

–The Monroe University men's outdoor track and field team competed at the University of South Florida Alumni Invitational over the weekend ,with Toussaint punching his ticket to the 2026 NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Shaquane Toussaint, fresh off his historic indoor season, Toussaint continued the momentum into his first outdoor competition of the year. On day one of the competition the first-year native of Grenada ran a time of 20.96 in the 200m, his time placed him 10th overall in the event and shattered the previous school record which was set back in 2019 (20.97) by his fellow countryman Phillip Marcelle. His performance also qualified him for the outdoor championships in New Mexico and marked an outdoor career best for him. He currently ranks first nationally in the event across all NJCAA divisions. Toussaint returned on day two to compete in the 100m; he clocked a blistering time of 10.53, which is a personal best for him as well.

Modou Sanneh had a great day at the track as well, in only his second time running the 800m event in his career, the second-year native of Gambia ran a time of 1:54.48 which is a personal best time for him, his performance as well placed him less than one second away from national qualification for the event.

Three Mustangs competed in the 200m; sophomore Douglas Lee ran a personal best time of 23.61. Sophomore Micah McHardy ran a personal best time of 24.31, and freshman Keba Cisse ran a time of 24.57. 

 On day two, three Mustangs competed in the 400m, freshman Jaheim Lawrence ran a personal best time of 50.32. Freshman Boitshepo Mashilo ran his first ever 400m  in his career and her ran a very impressive time of 51.11, freshman Emilio Bishop ran a personal best time of 52.53 and freshman Rashad Dixon ran a time of 55.45. 

Three Mustangs competed in the 100m. Freshman Emilio Bishop ran a personal best time of 10.69, sophomore Christian Gabriel ran a time of 11.13, sophomore Douglas Lee ran a time of 11.48. Sophomore Elijah Upsher jumped a distance of 6.00m in the long jump and freshman Keba Cisse jumped a distance of 5.50m. 

Two Mustangs competed in the 1500m run. Freshman Boitshepo Mashilo and sophomore Nkanyezi Ziqubu had a strong outing at the track as well, in their first  1500m race of their young season. Mashilo clocked a time of 4:05.37 and Ziqubu clocked a personal best time of 4:06.63.  Cleon Joseph clocked a time of 48.94 in the 400-meter as well.

The Mustangs will have a quick turnaround as they will compete at the 2026 Raleigh Relays on Thursday, March 26th.
