NEW YORK–The Monroe University men's volleyball team (9-7 overall) split their pair of games in New York City on Saturday afternoon. The Mustangs took the first match over Hostos CC in straight sets (25-18, 25-17, 28-26) and then fell to Borough of Manhattan Community College in straight sets (21-25, 17-25, 14-25).
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1 Hostos)
·     Monroe tallied eight kills in the first set while holding Hostos to just four.
·     Hostos also made eight errors in 27 attempts in the first set, aiding in the Mustangs' first-set victory 25-18.
·     In the second set, the Mustangs tallied 10 kills while holding Hostos to just five sets which aided in the Mustangs' 25-17 victory in the second set.
·     The third set was closer in the stats column, as both sides tallied 10 kills in the set, but Hostos committed more errors, which led to the Mustangs taking the third set 28-26.
Game 2 (Borough of Manhattan Community College)
·     In the first set, both sides were even in kills, 9-9. Both teams also had back-to-back four-point runs each, but Borough of Manhattan CC took the win in the opening set 25-21.
·     In the second set, Borough of Manhattan CC tallied 14 kills while Monroe only recorded nine. From point nine to 18, they consistently scored points, leading to the 25-17 set victory for Borough of Manhattan CC.
·     The third set was another convincing performance for Borough of Manhattan CC as they tacked on 11 kills while holding the Mustangs to 11.
·     They scored four straight points in the set to take a 25-14 set victory.
STATS AND NOTES
·     The Mustangs lead the all-time series with Borough of Manhattan CC 4-2.
·     The win over Hostos was the first win in program history for the Mustangs against Hostos.
·     Yensy Rodriguez led the Mustangs in kills in game one with 11.
·     Hudson Irving tallied 20 assists in game one and game two as well, which is the eighth and ninth time this season he's tallied 20-plus assists. Â

·     The Mustangs return to action on Monday, March 16, when they host Passaic County CC. Game-time is set for 6:00 p.m.
