NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.–The No. 8 Monroe University men's volleyball team (5-4 overall) swept Roxbury Community College (6-10 overall) in straight sets: 25-19, 25-5, and 25-16 on Wednesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Monroe out-played Roxbury in the first set, tallying seven kills on 22 attempts while holding Roxbury to just five kills on 12 attempts.
- The Mustangs controlled the tempo in the first set, scoring 11 points early while holding Roxbury to just three.
- The eight-point advantage was too much for Roxbury to handle as the Mustangs took set one 25-19.
- In set two, it was all Mustangs as they held Roxbury to just five points.
- They took a commanding 18-3 lead in set two and never looked back, taking the set 25-5.
- The Mustangs held Roxbury to just one kill in the second set while the Mustangs had four.
- In the third and final set, the Mustangs once again outmatched Roxbury, taking a 19-12 lead and ending the set with a 25-16 victory in set three.
- Â The Mustangs tallied nine kills in the set while holding Roxbury to six as they also had eight errors in the set alone.
STATS AND NOTES
- Yensy Rodriguez led the Mustangs with eight kills and eight service aces on the day.
- Cristian Nunez led the Mustangs in assists with nine on the day.
- Chijiaku Ndukanma had a powerful day guiding the Mustangs with four blocks.
- Monroe leads the all-time series over Roxbury 3-0, with all three being home victories over the Tigers.
- Â The Mustangs extended their win-streak to two on the year.

- Â The Mustangs return to action on Saturday, February 28, when they travel to Brooklyn, N.Y. to face Nassau Community College. Game-time is set for 12:00 p.m.
