No. 16 Men's Basketball Squeaks Out OT Win Over Howard CC

BALTIMORE, Md. – The No. 16 Monroe University men's basketball team (22-4 overall) edged Howard Community College (16-10 overall) with a 75-68 overtime win on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Mustangs tallied 40 points in the first half allowing just 30 to Howard.
  • Leading the way in the first half was Nick Williams who posted 13 points while going 9-11 from the free-throw line.
  • In the second half, Howard came back and fired 34 points while holding the Mustangs to only 24 to even the score at 64.
  • Three players on Howard scored eight points while the Mustangs leading scorer Williams was held to just seven.
  • In overtime, four crucial points by Riley Dunn aided the Mustangs to scoring 11 while holding Howard to only four which led to the 75-68 victory for Monroe.
STATS AND NOTES
  • Three Mustangs scored in double-digits featuring Williams (22), Naceiar Kirksey (15), and Nico Pena (10).
  • Monroe currently leads the all-time series with Howard 6-1 with today's win.
  • The Mustangs upped their win-streak the 15.
  • This is the first overtime game against Howard CC in program history.

The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
