NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The Monroe University Men's Volleyball team (3-3 overall) swept Kingsborough Community College (0-1 overall) in straight sets on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Monroe took the first set 25-18 with 14 kills coming from the Mustangs in the set.
- Kingsborough and Monroe battled in the second set with each side scoring over 20 points, but Monroe took the set 25-21 making them ahead by two sets heading into the final set.
- In the third set, Monroe nailed 11 kills which kept them ahead to close out the third set with a 25-22 victory.
STATS AND NOTES
- Freshman Yensy Rodriguez led the Mustangs in kills with 17 which is the third highest this season.
- Monroe currently leads the all-time series with Kingsborough 6-0 with today's win.
- Hudson Irving tallied his third highest assist total of the season with 24 on the day.
- The Mustangs also tallied three blocks in the game which is the third highest this season.
UP NEXT
- The Mustangs return to action on Saturday, February 21, when the face Kingsborough on the road. Game-time is set for 1:30 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
