No. 5 Men's Volleyball Falls to No. 10 Atlantic Cape in Five Sets

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.–The No. 5 Monroe University men's volleyball team (3-4 overall) fell to No. 10 Atlantic Cape Community College (3-1) in five sets 25-22, 16-25, 22-25, 25-20, 10-15 on Thursday night. This is the first loss for the Mustangs since February 1st.

HOW IT HAPPENED

·      In the first set, both teams started out tallying points, making the score even until Monroe tallied three straight points off three kills by Yensy Rodriguez to give the Mustangs a 13-11 lead in the set.

·      Amavih Calvert sealed the first set for the Mustangs with a kill to give a 24-20 lead, which was followed by a service error to give the Mustangs the win in set one.

·      Atlantic Cape answered in the second set, scoring five straight points at the end of the set to give them the 25-16 set win.

·      Four straight points by Atlantic Cape at the end of the set gave Atlantic Cape a 2-1 set lead heading into the third set.

·      In the fourth set, Monroe was ahead 18-16 and would take the victory courtesy of scoring eight of the last 12 points to give Monroe the 25-20 victory in the set.

·      Five straight points by the Buccaneers in the fifth set pushed them ahead to win 15-10 in the set.

STATS AND NOTES

·      Atlantic Cape captured its first victory against the Mustangs in program history.

·      Yensy Rodriguez tallied a season-high 27 kills and 30 points on the day.

·      Irving Hudson tallied a season-high 42 assists on the day.

·      This is the Mustangs' first loss since February 1, 2026.

UP NEXT

·      The Mustangs return to action on Saturday, February 21, when they travel to face Kingsborough Community College. Game-time is set for 1:30 p.m.

The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I).
