Baseball Edged in Doubleheader Against LSU-Eunice

Dropped game one 11-0, and 14-1 in game two

EUNICE, La. - The Monroe University baseball team (1-11 overall) was edged in both games of the doubleheader, falling 11-0 in the first game and 14-1 in the second game on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1)

  • After the Bengals loaded the bases in the bottom of the first inning, Mason Bordelon ripped a grand-slam home run to put the Bengals ahead 4-0.

  • In the bottom of the second inning, Jake Smith hit an RBI double, scoring one run to put LSU-Eunice ahead 5-0.

  • The Bengals added another RBI double in the bottom of the second inning courtesy of Jordan Luna to put the Bengals in a comfortable 6-0 lead.

  • Soon after, Milo Obradovich launched a two-run homer to put LSUE ahead 8-0.

  • Later in the same inning, Jacob Froehlich would hit a two-run home run to put the Bengals ahead 10-0 after two innings.

  • The Bengals finished their scoring in the bottom of the third inning off a sacrifice fly, scoring one run to result in an 11-0 victory in five innings.

Game 2

·      The Mustangs jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning of a solo home run by Nair Jamanika.

·      LSUE answered in the bottom of the second inning, scoring five runs, which included a grand slam homer by Luna and a solo homer by Andrew Clapinski to give the Bengals a 5-1 lead.

·      The Bengals added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with an RBI single by Aidan Mouton, a walked-in run, and a three-run home run by Mason Bordelon to put the Bengals ahead 11-1.

·      The Bengals tallied three more homers in the game off the bats of Mouton, Dylan Bell, and Marshall Lougue to complete the 14-1 victory in seven innings.

STATS AND NOTES

  • This was LSU-Eunice's 15th and 16th straight win against Monroe in program history. 

  • The Bengals hold the all-time series lead at 22-1. 

  • Jamanika tallied his second career homer and first this season.
