EUNICE, La. - The Monroe University baseball team (1-9 overall) dropped the first game of a four-game series to LSU-Eunice (7-1 overall) by a score of 22-5 in seven innings on Friday night.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bengals scored eight runs in the bottom of the first inning courtesy of a pair of RBI doubles from Jordan Luna and Jacob Froehlich, which gave LSU-Eunice a 4-0 lead. Then a grand-slam by Aidan Mouton put the Bengals ahead 8-0 after one.Â

The Mustangs got their first runs of the game in the third inning courtesy of a solo home run by Gavin Marchese to narrow the Bengal lead to 8-1.Â

The Bengals added five more runs in the bottom half of the third inning off a three-run homer by Andrew Clapinski and a pair of sacrifice fly outs which scored two more runs.Â

Monroe would add three more runs in the top of the fourth inning coming of a pair of RBI singles by Ryan Marchina and Tai Vic Tromp and a sacrifice fly by Marcus Mercado to cut the Bengals' lead to 13-4.Â

The Bengals continued to tack on six more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, which included an RBI single by Jake Smith to put the Bengals ahead 19-4.Â

LSU-Eunice added three more runs, including two in the bottom of the sixth inning, which came off a two-RBI single by Smith to put the Bengals ahead 22-4.Â

The Mustangs added one more run in the top of the seventh inning off an RBI ground out by Alvy Serrata, which led to the 22-5 defeat.Â
