New Rochelle, NY - The Mustangs put together another fantastic performance in front of the home crowd Monday night, rolling past Union College, 91-60.
The Mustangs set the tone early, jumping out to a 17-10 lead after the first quarter and tightening the defense in the second to hold Union to just eight points. Monroe went into halftime up 32-18 and never let the momentum swing, answering every Union push with poised execution on both ends of the floor.
The third quarter proved to be the turning point, as Monroe poured in 29 points while maintaining defensive pressure, stretching the lead comfortably heading into the final period. The Mustangs saved their best for last, erupting for 30 points in the fourth quarter and closing the game with authority to secure the 31-point victory.
Bre Jefferson led all scorers with 22 points, adding six assists and setting the pace offensively. Hellary De Los Santos dominated the glass with 18 rebounds to go along with 18 points, while Angie Tirado delivered a sharpshooting night from beyond the arc, knocking down five three-pointers and finishing with 18 points. Monroe's depth also shined, as the bench contributed key minutes and consistent energy throughout the contest.
As a team, the Mustangs controlled the boards, forced turnovers, and shot efficiently down the stretch, building their largest lead of the night in the final minutes. The convincing win moves Monroe to 10-6 on the year as they begin to tackle the heart of their schedule.
