Baseball Splits Doubleheader At Mercer County

Trenton, NJ – The Monroe University baseball team split its doubleheader at Mercer County Community College on Sunday, dropping the first contest, 12-2, before winning game two of the doubleheader, 10-3.

A six-run first inning dictated Monroe's victory, helping close out the trip to the Garden State on a high note. Freshman Jesus Nieves recorded three hits in the leadoff spot, while sophomores Anthony Fernandez and Ronald Almanzar each produced two RBIs.

Freshman Carlos Pimentel made his first appearance off the mound for the Mustangs as he recorded two RBIs on a single to right field. Pimentel's base knock capped off a crucial six-run first inning.

Mercer County was never competitive with sophomore Emmanuel Ramos on the mound. In a complete game, Ramos gave up three runs on six hits and struck out six in the outing.

The Vikings, however, took home game one thanks to a 12-run stretch in the fourth and fifth inning, enacting the run rule to put an early end to the first contest of the series.

Monroe will take on Suffolk County Community College on Thursday at 3:30 pm.
