Five Pitchers Combine For No-Hitter As JV Baseball Rolls At Touro

Brooklyn, NY – History was made in Friday's contest at Touro University for the Monroe University JV baseball team as five pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter in the 22-0 victory. The group of sophomores Jeremy Jimenez and Gian Acevedo, and freshmen Amaury Torres, Nelson Moronta and Jariel Moran combined to limit the Tornadoes to zero hits.

Monroe's 22 runs were a footnote in the affair as it marked the first no-hitter in program history. Jimenez drew the start with a scoreless first before Torres, Moronta and Acevedo followed. Moran tossed the final 1.2 innings, allowing just one walk and striking out five. The New York native struck out the side to secure the combined no-hitter.

All in all, the Mustangs pitching staff tallied 14 strikeouts in the six-inning contest.

Monroe's offense built a lead that left the pitching staff with zero worries. It scored in each inning, with a game-high seven runs crossing home plate in the fifth. The Mustangs strung together nine doubles, with freshman Waldy Peralta homering in the contest as well.

Freshman Cesar Candelario went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, while sophomore Melvin Laracuente joined Candelario with three RBIs on two base knocks. Sophomore Matthew DeFisher and freshman Vernon Hudson joined the aforementioned duo with multiple hits, with DeFisher doing so in a pinch-hitting role.

Monroe is rolling as it has won three straight across three days. It will cap off its six games in five-day stretch with a doubleheader at SUNY Orange on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
