New Rochelle, NY – The Monroe University JV baseball team improved to .500 on Monday with an 11-5 win over Citius Prep. The Mustangs jumped out to a 9-0 lead thanks in large part to a seven-run fourth inning.
Monroe earned its fourth straight victory with a stellar display on both sides of the ball. The offense recorded nine RBIs on ten hits, while sophomore
Juan Ramos and freshman
Yerik Ricourt combined for 15 strikeouts.
After taking a 2-0 lead early, the Mustangs turned it up a notch in the fourth inning. Freshman
Mario Bernard got the scoring started with an RBI single. Sophomore
Melvin Laracuente then singled in two before freshman
Matthew DeFisher singled in another run.
The inning's scoring was concluded on a sacrifice fly from sophomore
Josh Peralta.
Citius Prep ended the outing on a 5-2 run, but the early scoring by the Mustang offense kept the visitors at bay. Ramos earned the win after allowing two runs across 5.1 innings, striking out nine. Ricourt then earned the save with 3.2 innings to close out the game.
Monroe enters its final game of the season on Tuesday with a 13-13-1 record. The opportunity to finish above .500 will come at 3:30 pm, with the team's sophomores being honored prior to first pitch.
