Selden, NY – The Monroe University JV baseball team fell in eight innings to Suffolk County Community College, 12-2, on Wednesday.
Both of Monroe's runs were scored on sacrifice flies as the team mustered just six hits on the day. Sophomore
Jeurys Cuevas collected two hits out of the lead-off spot, while freshman
Yibran Almonte joined Cuevas with multiple hits, including a late-inning triple.
Although the Mustangs fell into an early 2-0 hole, they battled for much of the early portion of the contest. Opportunities presented itself, particularly in the fifth inning while trailing 4-1. With the bases-loaded, freshman
Cesar Candelario couldn't trim the deficit as he fouled out.
From there, the Sharks tacked on runs in the next three innings, eventually forcing the run-rule on a passed ball. Sophomore
Melvin Laracuente and freshmen
Dominic Guzman both garnered RBIs in the loss.
Monroe will embark on a four-game Pennsylvania road trip this weekend, with the first of four contests coming on Friday against Lancaster Bible College JV. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
