New Rochelle, NY – The Monroe University baseball team earned an 8-1 victory over Rockland Community College on Tuesday. Freshman
Ricardo Feliz was unstoppable, hurling a complete game and allowing just one unearned run on three hits.
Feliz delivered, achieving his first win of the season. He induced ten groundouts while striking out six batters in just his third career start. The Panama native now holds a team-leading 1.98 ERA across 13.2 innings pitched.
As well as Feliz performed on the mound, the offense picked him up to scatter eight runs on the Fighting Hawks. It started in the first when sophomore
Ronald Almanzar hit a triple to the right center gap, scoring two runs. The Mustangs then scored four runs in the third.
Freshmen
Gavin Marchese,
Ryan Marchina and
Derek Lebron all picked up RBIs in the inning, helping the Mustangs jump out to a 6-1 lead.
A ton of Mustangs reached base due to hit-by-pitches, with the team garnering six on the day. This led to multiple scoring opportunities to which the Mustangs took advantage of. All in all, Monroe scored eight runs on five hits — the lowest total in a win this season.
The Mustangs got it down in the trenches on Tuesday and will look to ride this wave into a Friday doubleheader against Roxbury Community College.
