Baseball Opens 2025 Season With Two Losses In Texas

Houston, TX – The Monroe University baseball team kicked off the 2025 season with a pair of losses to Galveston College and San Jacinto College on Wednesday. Both games ended early due to the run rule, with the Mustangs losing 11-1 to the Whitecaps and 10-1 to the Ravens.

Monroe struggled in both contests, garnering just two runs on nine hits.

In game one against the Whitecaps, early runs put the Mustangs in an early deficit, and a huge fourth inning put them into an insurmountable deficit. Sophomore Ronald Almanzar racked up an RBI double, while freshman Tai Vic Tromp went 2-for-2.

Against the Ravens, the Mustangs took a 1-0 lead to lead off the game thanks to another run-producing hit by Almanzar. Freshman Waldy Peralta blooped a single into right before a loud single by freshman Juan Garcia put Peralta 90 feet away from home. Almanzar did the rest.

Pitching was solid early on as freshman Kyle Mandirola threw a scoreless first before allowing just one run in the second due to a sacrifice fly. It unraveled in the third, however, for Monroe as four runs crossed home plate.

More runs scored for San Jacinto, leading to the early dismissal.

Monroe will head to Louisiana for its next four games as they take on LSU-Eunice. Game one of the weekend series is scheduled for Friday, February 7 at 6:00 pm ET.
