Florence, SC – The Monroe University baseball team dropped both games of its Friday doubleheader to kick off the Stinger Invitational. The Mustangs fell to Gaston College, 6-0, before losing the night cap to East Georgia State College, 6-1.
In game one against the Rhinos, the Mustangs matched Gaston's hit total of five. However, the runs didn't fall Monroe's way as Gaston took a 4-0 lead by the fourth inning. In an already shortened outing due to the doubleheader, the Mustangs couldn't gain traction on their deficit.

Tai Vic Tromp and
Juan Garcia all garnered hits atop the lineup.
Against the Bobcats, the Mustangs outhit their opponent 6-to-2, but errors kept them from capitalizing on the additional offensive output. Despite taking a 1-0 lead in the first, the Mustangs surrendered six runs over the next three to put them into a hole.
Nieves continued his strong day and strong overall start to the season with a 2-for-3 outing. Freshman
Ricardo Feliz hurled two no-hit innings in relief for the Mustangs.
Monroe's next opportunity to pick up a victory will come on Saturday when they partake in a doubleheader against the hosts, Florence-Darlington Technical College. Game one is scheduled to begin at 11:00 am.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
