Twin Falls, Idaho – The Mustangs dropped to 5-5 on the season after a 71-41 loss to Shelton State on Friday evening. The Mustangs struggled to find an offensive rhythm throughout the matchup, shooting 13-for-70 from the field and 4-for-29 from three.
Shelton State set the tone early behind a 21-11 opening quarter and never allowed Monroe to close the gap, using a balance attack and strong rebounding to control the game. The Bucs finished with a 63-50 edge on the glass and converted 21 points off Monroe's 24 turnovers.
Sydney Huskey led the Mustangs with 12 points, five boards, and two steals, while Sheridan Oberhand added 11 points off the bench, including a pair of threes. Hellary De Los Santos posted eight points and 10 rebounds, giving Monroe its strongest presence inside.
Shelton State was paced by Nadia Norfleet, who scored 22 points on 8-for-12 shooting with four threes, while Alana Obianozie added 13 points, nine rebounds, and six assists. The Bucs pulled away with a 19-15 third quarter and held their largest lead of 31 late in the period.
Monroe returns to action tomorrow as they continue their Idaho trip, looking to bounce back and regain momentum against Cochise College.
