Hobbs, NM – The Monroe University women's basketball team is set to begin its 2025-26 campaign with a three-game trip to New Mexico. Its first opponent on Saturday will be Odessa College, with tip-off scheduled for 4:00 pm ET.
"We are excited for the opportunity to play the toughest non-conference schedule in all of JUCO women's basketball," head coach Mike Seney said. "We are ready for the multiple tests on our schedule to get us prepared for March. We know the team that we can be and we are ready to get better game-by-game throughout the course of the season."
After a successful tenure at CCBC Essex, Seney made the jump to Division I and assembled a team fit for the big stage in March. Of the 14 members of the roster, just three were a part of the 2024-25 national tournament team — NJCAA All-American
Kaylyn Lelie,
Sydney Huskey and
Dunja Miletic. All three are poised for a solid second season with the Mustangs.
Of the remaining 11 newcomers, eight are transfers. Brought over from Seney's previous school are
Astou Diongue,
Alex Stewart and
Adela Cecunjanin. Cecunjanin led the three former Knights with nine points per game across 34 games last year.
Other transfers include:
Skylah Kemp (17.6 PPG at Monroe Community College),
Hellary De Los Santos (15.9 PPG at Union College),
Bre Jefferson (22.6 PPG at St. Clair Community College),
Fabiana Poindujour (5.2 PPG at Salt Lake Community College) and
Eniyah Stinnette (Auburn University at Montgomery).
Seney and the Mustangs are searching for their sixth straight NJCAA national tournament appearance. They will be well equipped to rise to the occasion thanks to a fierce schedule.
Monroe will face four teams ranked in the preseason top-25 this season, including No. 2 Shelton State Community College in late-November. First, they will encounter two of those preseason ranked opponents at the New Mexico Classic this weekend — No. 9 New Mexico Junior College and No. 7 South Plains College.
But before those two showdowns, they will take on Odessa to kick-off the season. The Wranglers are coming off a 19-9 season and will be a solid test for Monroe.
