This Week in Monroe Athletics: Cross Country Prepares for Third Meet as Four Other Teams Compete

New Rochelle, NY – This week in Monroe athletics features six teams competing, with the men's and women's cross country teams set to compete in their third meet of the season following an impressive showcase at the METS Championships.
 
Cross Country
This past weekend at the METS Championship saw all 12 runners for the Mustangs achieve personal-bests. For the men, sophomore Nkanyezi Ziqubu led the way once again with a sixth place finish and a time of 24:59.00. On the women's side, freshman Brooke Sheppard had the top time, clocking in at 20:38.00. The third meet of the year will be at Sunken Meadows State Park.

Women's Volleyball
The Mustangs made some noise this weekend in Tennessee with a perfect 4-0 showing at the Walters State Invitational. The four wins increased the team's win streak to 20 games and saw the Mustangs topple No. 23 Lurleen B. Wallace Community College to close out the weekend. Monroe will host four games this week, including a tri-match on Saturday against Delaware Technical Community College and Roxbury Community College.

Women's Soccer
Freshman Wiktoria Mikrut secured her fourth hat trick of the season in Monroe's 6-1 win over Harford Community College last week, pushing the team to 7-0-1 on the year. The penultimate matchup of the regular season will take place on Tuesday against Caldwell University JV.

Men's Soccer
The Mustangs continued to impress last Tuesday in a 3-1 win over Harford. In the match, freshman Junyoung Park registered the first two goals for the Mustangs before sophomore Carmelo Bello kept up his solid campaign with another score late in the first half. They will look towards taking down Frederick Community College in their final road game of the regular season.

JV Men's Soccer
Monroe will close out the year with a road showing against the Valiants of Manhattanville University JV. The Mustangs drew Manhattanville in their first meeting, 1-1, before falling to the in-state opponent, 2-1, ten days later. The team will be searching for a win this time around in the season finale.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
