SPRINGFIELD, Mass., September 19, 2019 – In its second contest in Massachusetts this week, the Monroe College Mustangs JV men's soccer team played to a 3-3 tie at Springfield Technical Community College on Thursday. The Mustangs move to 0-1-2 on the year, while the Rams go to 3-1-1.
The Mustangs had an early 2-0 lead in the game. Williams Shanks scored in the 15th minute, and
Jay Wong later scored in the 25th minute to put Monroe up by two, a lead the Mustangs held into halftime.
Shanks got on the board again in the 50th minute to put the Mustangs up by three. The Rams later scored three straight goals within 15 minutes to tie the game at three. Regulation concluded with a 3-3 stalemate, and the two teams elected not to advance to overtime, resulting in a tie.
Jose Ocampo played the full 90 minutes in goal for Monroe, stopping four shots while allowing three goals to move to 0-1-1 on the year.
The Mustangs will hit the road again on Tuesday, Sept. 24, when they visit the Army Preparatory School in West Point, N.Y. The game is set to begin at 4 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
