Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Kaylyn Lelie's Career Night Pushes Women's Basketball Past CCBC Catonsville

Baltimore, MD – Behind a career-best performance from freshman Kaylyn Lelie, the Monroe University women's basketball team earned its sixth win in a row and moved to 6-0 on the road this season with a 79-43 victory over CCBC Catonsville on Friday.

Lelie was unstoppable as she posted a career-high 28 points. The Queens native was 12-for-21 from the field and connected on three makes from beyond the arc. Customary for Lelie's game-by-game performance, she cleaned up the boards well too with six rebounds on the night.

Monroe dominated the boards overall, corralling 52 rebounds compared to the Cardinals' 28. Additionally, the visitors absorbed 25 offensive rebounds to continuously garner opportunities to run up the score. This led to 48 points in the paint and 22 second chance points.

Eight different players tallied multiple offensive boards, with sophomore Alycia Secchiaroli leading the way with five.

The second half is where most of the damage was done as the Mustangs entered the intermission with a 37-25 lead. From there, they outscored the Cardinals, 42-18, the rest of the way to provide a statement victory on the road.

Lelie scored 17 of her 28 in the final 20 minutes, while freshman Carlota Lopez compiled nine second half points.

The Mustangs will continue its two-game tour of Maryland with a highly anticipated rematch against Division II No. 3 CCBC Essex. Monroe suffered its first loss of the season on November 20 to the Knights and will be seeking revenge this time around. Tip-off is scheduled for Saturday at 2:00 pm.
