New Rochelle, NY – The Monroe University women's basketball team moved to 13-2 on the season and increased its win streak to five on Sunday with an 84-57 victory over Monroe Community College.
It was a total team effort as ten players contributed double-digit minutes to the 27-point win. Freshman
Carlota Lopez paced the Mustangs with 14 points. Fellow freshman
Sydney Huskey scored 13 points and attributed nine steals to the impressive defensive performance.

Kaylyn Lelie recorded a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds — ten of which being offensive boards.
Last time these two squads met the Mustangs ran up the score from the jump, but the Tribunes hung around this time, entering the second quarter down 22-14. But it was a dominant second quarter from the Mustangs that essentially put the game out of reach.
Outscoring the Tribunes, 18-6, the Mustangs forced nine turnovers in the quarter to overwhelm the visitors. From then on, Monroe coasted to victory.
The Mustangs will head to Maryland for their next two matchups. Before drawing Division II No. 3 CCBC Essex in a rematch, they will take on CCBC Catonsville on Friday, January 24, at 1:00 pm.

There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I).
