New Rochelle, NY – The Monroe University women's basketball team set several program bests in its 120-13 victory over Erie Community College on Saturday during day one of the MLK Classic.
The Mustangs broke the program record for points scored, steals (46) and field goals made (57). Ten players corralled multiple steals on the day, with freshman
Carlota Lopez recording nine. Additionally, seven players reached double-digits in scoring.
The Monroe bench scored 67 points as multiple players garnered career-high numbers.
Freshmen
Abria Robinson (15),
Zanaya Parsons (14) and
Darrian Jackson (14), and sophomore
Qaizden Stephano (13) recorded season-highs in the outing. Freshman
Sydney Huskey paced the Mustangs with 20 points.
Monroe will look to Sunday when they conclude the MLK Classic against Monroe Community College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
