New Rochelle, NY – Behind a 21-point, 11-rebound performance from freshman
Carlota Lopez, the Monroe University women's basketball team defeated Raritan Valley Community College, 75-37, on Sunday to conclude the Monroe Mixer with an impressive 2-0 stretch.
After the Mustangs faced a physical battled against SUNY Niagara on Saturday, the team coasted to victory on Sunday behind Lopez's efficient night. The Spain native shot 9-for-15 from the field while also leading the team with five steals.
Freshmen
Kaylyn Lelie and
Sydney Huskey continued their solid weekend with 16 and 14-point outings, respectively. Sophomore
Alycia Secchiaroli had another tremendous day on the boards, recording ten rebounds in the victory.
It was Monroe from the jump as it took a 17-12 lead into the second quarter and never looked back. A 39-15 second half put the score at a lopsided differential as the home team imposed their will in the final outing of the Monroe Mixer.
The Mustangs scored an astounding 52 points in the paint as they coasted to the win. A 20-2 differential in the fourth quarter was indicative of the size and quickness advantage Monroe possessed against Raritan Valley.
Monroe will next compete in the Monroe University MLK Classic next weekend. It will host Erie Community College on Saturday, January 18, at 3:00 pm.
