EUNICE, La., February 11, 2024 – The Monroe College Mustangs baseball team dropped its final game of a four-game series at NJCAA Div. II No. 2 LSU-Eunice on Sunday by a score of 15-1 at Bengal Stadium.

It was a rocky start for the Mustangs, as the Bengals put seven runs on the board across the first two innings. Monroe tallied its only run of the day when
Jeremy De La Mota scored on a wild pitch in the top of the fourth. Tyler Johnson hit his second home run of the day for the Bengals in the fifth, and then the home team rallied for seven runs in the sixth to eventually force a run-rule finish after seven innings.

Alec Beversdorf picked up the win in relief for the Bengals with a pair of hitless frames.
Brailyn Cruz suffered his first loss of the season for Monroe after going five innings on Sunday.

Eli Gries-Smith hit 1-for-3 out of the leadoff spot in Sunday's contest.
Pedro Vasquez matched that 1-for-3 effort.

The Mustangs will take a day to travel and rest before playing again on Tuesday, Feb. 13. Monroe will travel to Alvin, Texas, to take on Alvin Community College on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. Â

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe College marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
