Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Falls To Union, 74-61

New Rochelle, NY – The Monroe University women's basketball team suffered its second loss of the season on Thursday evening, falling to Divison II No. 4 Union College, 74-61.

Freshmen Kaylyn Lelie and Sydney Huskey led the way for the Mustangs, scoring 17 and 13 points, respectively. Freshman Zanaya Parsons had a solid 9 point-11 rebound stat line across her 26 minutes of the bench.

Monroe kicked off the marquee matchup with two quick buckets, but the Owls put together an 18-5 run to close out the first quarter to take a double-digit lead. The Mustangs, however, played cohesive basketball in the second quarter to cut the deficit to six by halftime.

Union erupted in the third quarter to create the distance it needed to come out on top, pouring in 26 points on the Mustang defense.

While the Mustangs showed some fight late — ending the game on a 20-11 run and cutting Union's lead to ten — the deficit was too large to overcome. Lelie connected on two threes during the late run.

The Mustangs will host Bryant and Stratton on Wednesday, December 11 at 6:00 pm before heading to Florida for the Palm Beach State College Tournament.
