Women's Basketball Bounces Back In 73-55 Victory Over Bryant & Stratton

New Rochelle, NY – The Monroe University women's basketball team put forth a bounce back effort on Wednesday evening, defeating Bryant & Stratton (Syracuse) College, 73-55, by pulling away with a strong fourth quarter.

Freshmen Sydney Huskey and Kaylyn Lelie dominated in the final quarter of play, helping the Mustangs distance themselves enough from the Bobcats to earn the win. Huskey had 12 of her 19 points in the fourth, while Lelie scored ten points in the fourth and 26 overall.

On the night, Lelie led all scorers and corralled a game-high 15 rebounds, with eight of those being offensive boards. She also collected five steals. Huskey forced the issue as evidenced by her 11-for-13 mark from the charity stripe. Fellow freshman Carlota Lopez contributed 11 points and seven steals.

It was a rough go-around for Monroe in the first quarter as Bryant & Stratton battled to tie the game at ten. But in the second quarter, the Mustangs arose, shooting 45% from the field. Lelie scored ten in the quarter, while freshman Zanaya
Parsons poured in seven as she played the length of the second.

The Bobcats wouldn't go away, however, as they cut the deficit to nine by the end of the third. But another valiant effort from the Mustangs allowed them to pull away late, with free throws being crucial down the stretch.

Monroe cashed in on 9-of-13 from the line as opposed to a 4-for-12 mark by the Bobcats.

The Mustangs move to 9-2 on the year and will head to the Sunshine State next for a two-game stretch. Their first game will come on Friday, December 13 at 4:00 pm against Division II No. 10 Palm Beach State College.
