Men's Basketball Wins Fourth Straight; Defeats Harford 80-51

Bel Air, MD – Fueled by a second consecutive second half surge, the Monroe University men's basketball team earned a comfortable 80-51 win over Harford Community College on Thursday night.

Sophomore Devere Palmer Jr. paced the Mustangs with 21 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the field. Freshman Eric Mejia and sophomore Hassan Washington joined Palmer Jr. as double-digit scorers, chipping in 12 and ten points, respectively.

Monroe led by just two points at halftime as it couldn't capitalize on the Fighting Owls's miscues.

But a commanding second half changed all of that as the Mustangs began to feed off Harford's mistakes. Monroe scored 22 points to Harford's zero off turnovers, also outscoring the Fighting Owls by seven points on second chance opportunities.

An 11-2 run that led to the 12-minute mark of the half was crucial in gaining separation. Washington scored twice in the run, while freshman Kylian 't Hart closed out the run with a lay-in off a Harford turnover with 12:08 left to play.

After two free throws interrupted the run, the Mustangs pieced together a 15-0 run that sent the game in a different direction. Sophomore Jordan Sanders closed the run with his first of two threes with 4:33 remaining.

Ten players scored the Mustangs as they moved to 6-2. Having won its last four, Monroe will next take on Richard Bland College on Saturday, November 23 at 3:00 pm.
