Rochester, NY – Freshman
Morgan Marshall of the Monroe University women's basketball team dropped a career-high 37 points in its astonishing 99-29 victory over Monroe Community College on Saturday afternoon to kick off the MCC Classic.
Marshall, across 35 minutes, was 17-for-24 from the field. She scored over half her points in the first quarter on nine made field goals, at one point scoring 11 straight points for the Mustangs. The Newark, NJ, native tallied seven points in the second, two in the third and nine in the fourth.
Marshall finished her day with nine steals, five assists and five rebounds. Her impressive outing bumped her season average to a team-high 18.8 points per game.
While Marshall shined against the Tribunes, it was total team effort in the whopping 70-point win. Freshman

Nicole Bencosme scored 13 points each, while sophomore transfer
Julia Pacheco tallied a 10-and-10 double-double.
Fitting the trend of the season thus far, the Mustangs dominated in the first half, outscoring the Tribunes, 51-10. That continued into the second half, with the Mustangs maintaining a definitive lead thanks to a 48-19 stretch.
Eight different players scored in the third and fourth quarter.
The Mustangs also ran up the score thanks to an astounding 51 points off turnovers. They forced 34 on the day. They made just four three-pointers on the day, showcasing their extended ability to score inside the arc. Sixty-four points were scored in the paint for Monroe.
The 70-point victory marked a new team-high in an otherwise dominant start to the season. At 5-0, the Mustangs will take on Erie Community College on Sunday at 10:00 am to close out the MCC Classic.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
