HOUSTON, Texas, February 16, 2023 – Taking on one of the regular powerhouses of NJCAA baseball on Thursday, the Monroe College Mustangs baseball team dropped an 11-0 decision at No. 6 San Jacinto College.

The Ravens took an early lead in the second when they brought the first run across in the game for a 1-0 advantage. A big fourth inning then put the Mustangs in a big hole, as the Ravens tallied seven runs to go up by eight. They added another in the fifth before two runs came home in the sixth to reach the 11-0 final score.

Francisco Hernandez earned the win with five shutout frames for the Ravens to improve to 2-2 on the year.
Andrelis Payamps took the loss for the Mustangs to fall to 0-2.

Ronald Almanzar and
Victor Olmos each hit 2-for-3 in the game.
Trevor Dutra batted 1-for-2, while
Jeremy De La Mota and
Diego Urreta each went 1-for-3.

The Mustangs will look to bounce back on Friday, Feb. 17, when they take on San Jacinto once again in Game 2 of the four-game series in Houston. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. EST.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe College marching band and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 11 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
