HOUSTON, Texas, February 17, 2023 – Game 2 of the four-game series between the Monroe College Mustangs baseball team and No. 6 San Jacinto College went to the home team by a final score of 16-2 on Friday.

The Ravens got an early jump on the Mustangs with four runs in the bottom of the first. In the top of the second,
Jeremy De La Mota hit a leadoff double to get things going for the Mustangs, and then
Jordy Batista dropped a single into left to put runners on the corner.
Andres Castro then singled in De La Mota to get the Mustangs on the board and make it a 4-1 game.

Unfortunately, that was not enough for Monroe, as San Jac rallied for nine runs in the second for a 13-1 lead. The Mustangs were able to bring another run across in the third.
Gilbert Gomez and
Pedro Crespo hit back-to-back singles, and then ground outs by
Diego Urreta and
Ronald Almanzar moved the runners up until Gomez scored for Monroe's second run of the game.

The Ravens went on to add two more runs in the third, and later one more in the sixth to reach the eventual final score.

Connor Lee earned the win in relief for the Ravens for his first victory of the season after tossing four scoreless innings.
Jean Ortiz took the loss for the Mustangs.

Castro finished 1-for-2 with an RBI in the game. De La Mota batted 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
Jordy Batista hit a double in a 2-for-3 effort. Gomez went 1-for-3 with a run, while Crespo also hit 1-for-3 in the game.

Monroe will look to turn things around in Game 3 against the Ravens on Saturday, Feb. 18. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. EST.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe College marching band and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 11 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
